I selected that area just because it is currently "ugly" and not maintained (there is usually a jungle in summer time). It also close to main transport (for people who would like to use tram after training). And it is reactively easy to get there from many parts from the island. Extra plus point for this area is it is close to the main park/playground (Theo van Gogh Park).
As for Centrumeiland - I think it will be relatively far away from most of the people on island, until that area will be fully developed (re-built). I don't think it is the best place so far, but may be will be in a distant future.
But obviously I'd be glad to have such park in any place on Ijburg or even in two.
